Amy Lyn Acuff (Port Arthur, July 14, 1975) is an athlete from the United States, specializing in high jump. SHe participated in four Olympics between 1996 and 2008. Her personal best is 2.01 meters and was obtained in the Weltklasse in Zurich August 15, 2003.
Early career
From an early age that Amy Acuff showed interest in athletics, participating in events like sprinting and long jump in high school Calaleen the city of Corpus Christi in southern Texas. This is where, at age 13, begins to compete in show jumping in time with very interesting results for a teenager. His stature also led her to compete at the high school basketball team.
Throughout the time that remains in secondary education, results in jumping show an unusual progression: 15 years to me is 1.83, with only 17 years, exceeds the threshold of 1.93 m.
Senior Career
In 1993, Amy accepted a scholarship at UCLA and moved to California to study biology. There have been fortunate to be coached by Bob Kersee respected technical and Jeanette Bolden, integrating the elite of the U.S. athletics. In 1994 obtained the bronze medal in World Championships Junior Championships, held in Lisbon. The following year, snatching the record national university, with the mark of 1.98 m.
Then begins a journey that will lead her to win several national titles indoors and outdoors and achieve a gold medal in the 1997 University Games. It has also been a finalist in major international competitions.
